![]() Perhaps best of all, the maps in every mode are more challenging and, crucially, less fertile than the Civ II equivalents. Gameplay in Test of Time benefits from improved AI civilizations, which are keener to expand into extensive empires and are less prone to AI stupidities. Fantasy and sci-fi games retain the familiar game mechanics but play out over a number of linked map levels. Extended original extends gameplay beyond successfully winning the space race, allowing the player to colonise Alpha Centuri, a planet inhabited by a single alien species. To summarise, Civilization II Test of Time offers four gameplay modes of the Civilization II game: original, extended original, fantasy and sci-fi. Its a timeless classic which is a pleasure to play even today.Ĭivilization II Test of Time remains the best expansion of the best version of Civ. My advice is to buy the original Sid Meier'S Civilization II (PC CD). In conclusion, there is a reason this game is 1/5th of the price of the original - The interface is awful and takes all the fun out of playing. In the city view you now have to scroll between unit support/improvements/units in city/etc, rather than having them separate to view all at once. Test of Time turned this interface on its head - nothing is where it should be, it's awkward, all sidebars and dialogue boxes have a horrible textured background making them harder to read. Civ2 had a great interface - everything was where is needed to be, it was a joy to play. ![]() No videos when you complete a wonder, No meeting with the city council. No more cutscenes / City council! (this is bad!) However, gameplay is exactly the same, units/terrain just look different and have different names. ![]() By this I mean you can play as a whole host of new civilizations including aliens, on a number of different worlds. They are more complex than before which merely makes them harder to identify (this is bad!) Every tech / improvement has a new icon. New sounds too for unit movement/attack etc. Terrain looks slightly different but not much better. Test of Time is exactly the same as the original in terms of gameplay. Sid meiers starships on cd Patch#Please note, this game does not play out-of-the-box on new operating systems - you must download a patch (available online). ![]() You can check out reviews of the original Civ2 for more details of gameplay etc. As this product is a slightly-updated version of Sid Meier'S Civilization II (PC CD), this review is a comparison of the 2. ![]()
